You surprised me for I thought the "best friend" was a human being originally. Being an animal lover I can relate to your pain... I remember having to put my first dog down because of constant seizures. I know he's just an animal, but it was a very sad day for me! Though this is a bit different for you felt that you could save him... may he always be a warm memory for you to look back on!

You didn't let him down, I don't believe. You both did what you had to do, the best way you both knew how. A very touching piece... Jack

This is so sad, great for the contest. I know what it feels like . i had a little puppy once, he only lived 5 months. One day someone stole him from our back yard. We looked everywhere, but could not find him. fuor days later he came back, but was not the same any more. Two ys later he died. I cried a lot Good luck in the contest.... Lucilla

What the current takes is a great title. This is an allegory for many situations. I have enjoyed visiting very much dear poet. You have talent and authenticity and a great sense of realism. Thank-you for all of this.
