The Farmer

                                                    He stands there
Amid the weathered stalks of a plowed field
                                                   His face is solemn
The earthy smell and silent dawn reflect the solitude in his eyes
                                               He squints to the east
As the closing rays touch the toes of a worn boot
The scent of rain rises with his hand
To absently rub a sun beaten neck
And his care stands still in the quiet growth of years
                                                     He is the farmer
                                            What does he think about?

I've never really looked at farmers this way - but it is a great question. With other types of people that work at desk jobs I imagine them as just going through the motions, anxious to get home. With a farmer though, he seems more in touch with the way of things. His thoughts are probably simpler than most, but at the same time more in touch with reality. Super interesting, my friend!

Another awesome poem. A great observer makes a great writer. I think you are both and much more. Awesome work once again. Always, Laura

Caleb, do you watch Survivors? They ate really disgusting larvae, pig brains and other stuff last night!! My favorite player, the geek, was the winner. It was amazing. I am very sensitive to gross food, like SQUIRRELS and could never stomach that stuff. hahaha. Let me go see your new poem now.

I just have to make a joke here about Gail's comment: This is truly outstanding. And the farmer, like you, is Out STANDING in his field!
