The Posthumous Pedestal -Dedication to Sylvia Plath

This is my lil Ode to the poet, Sylvia Plath...who committed suicide 50 years ago this February...

Along this pedestal I climb.
 Thoughts, at times dark,
 Twisted around my mind.
Like bark gripping a decayed tree

In a cold dark hole,
 Pills fail me.
 Longing for blackness and quiet,
 Failure awakens me.

Time passes and I continue to climb.
 That pedestal
 That pedestal
 That stands before me,
 In all its majesty.
 Rejection blinds me.
 But happiness pushes me.
 My name, my name….will be

My love, oh my love!
 Such inspiration.
 My name, your name
 OUR names…will be

His warm glare towards another,
 A touch.
 A giggle.
Suddenly finds the rage inside my heart

My love, my love,
 What do you see?
 In her,
 In others,
 But OUR names will be!
 This pedestal, this pedestal
 Waits for me.
 Time slips beneath
The papers scattered on my desk.
 Tired.
 So tired.
 If only I could sleep.
 My name, my name,
 Do you know my name?

Inner rage spills onto the paper.
Words could have been written in blood.
 My….”love”….Oh my “love”
 Such inspiration,
 Of a different kind.
MY name, MY name will be.

Desperation fills me.
 No longer able to manage.
 Longing for blackness and quiet.
 Failure dwindles me.

Inhale, inhale
 Such peace before me.
 Death is an art,
 A personal mastery.

Its high on this pedestal
 A little too late.
 I now watch from above,
 A scratch on the slate.

There was a time that I thought…
the cure to everything was a hot bath.
But, Im sure you know that by now…
My name, my name… is…. Sylvia Plath
