PRETTY AWFUL

PRETTY AWFUL

Sleet in the eye-slits and I
See only the blanched balls
Pile up in the old drifts,
Filling hollows which last week
Suggested spring.

Head down
And leaning with the wind
I squint my last yards home.
The spring-hungry street is now
Winter white again.
Picturesque misery
............................................................................

Note:

Shelley said, “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?”

Obviously he didn’t live in Russia, because the
answer is yes, it can be very far behind indeed.

What a picture you paint here...like the eye descriptions. Spring may show up in New England Thursday, hurray!
