Intrepid, stronger than any man I know,
An alluring mind housed in one so plain,
Love took the form of a ruffled sparrow,
Virtuous, glorious, my own, my Jane.
Candid, precocious, unpredictable,
Oh, how she provokes me, asks far too much,
Ardent, true, but damned immovable,
A bird I may view, yet never can touch.
She has flown, as I knew that she would,
There is no longer a reason to live,
Where is my happiness, all that is good,
Why was her pure heart unable to forgive ...
I hear that voice as though reason too burned,
It is her! At last, my soul has returned!
