Where Darkness Dwells

Where Darkness Dwells

There are people in this world that look just like you and I
We walk pass them each day on the street with a small glance
Not knowing that something sinister lurks within their minds
A place where darkness dwells waiting to have its chance

They are the psychopaths that invade their victims at no mercy
Their smiles are not genuine, neither are the kind words they say
It’s all part of a game they create that hides under their mask of sanity
Waiting ever so patiently to earn your trust so they can use you as prey

Their hearts don’t feel any remorse for the evil things they’ve done
They have no conscience to feel what is right or wrong in their wrath
Instead, they blame their psychotic actions on everyone
The victims that is, that innocently stroll along their path
Where darkness dwells

Hey Gail, this is a really powerful poem... what I love is that you emphasized that these kind of sinister people blame it all on other people, or typically their mental state. There is no- and I mean NO- justification for acts of violence. Violence is a personal choice, and I am glad you have posted these words that stress that. Thank you for this and best of luck to you in the contest!
