The royal the regal vs the poet's own realm

Of
splendid
thrones of
gold
Of
treasures
manifold

Of Sultans
and Shahs
Of Emirs
and Rajahs

Of
jewelled
caskets
or lavish
banquets

Of
sparkling
crowns
and
flowing
gowns

Of kings
and queens
Rulers and
emperors

Of their
subservient
stewards
and
obedient
butlers
Or the
servile
knaves
and
stalwart
squires

Of the
peons and
minions
pages and
pavilions

Of castles
and palaces
of
abounding
gold and
silver
in
ostentatious
regal
splendour

Ah the
fanning
maids in
waiting
Yet to me
one thing
worth
more
noticing
The poet
minstrels
who came
to sing
from afar
for the
queen and
king

For I'd
rather be a
poet for
kings
so to my
tunes
swayed
the
kingdom
than I be
the king
of mere
subjects
and be filled with regal
boredom!

So I could join ranks of
troubadours
and sing for the king
some folklores

(form Troubadour)

Great observation of the troubadour which I have always believed is a noble station in life. We have a grand opportunity in life to speak to the hearts of people, to bring them to a higher place. You have brought that across very well in this poem and it was a pleasure to read. Thank you so much for you comment on my poem.... Robert.

Hi there, really liked this. I here you. Like yourself, we use the craft of words to build our visions and i would rather be the lowliest of wordsmiths than the richest of kings. I liked the flow of your words and the pictures you painted for us. Another fine write my friend. Have a good day. Catch you later. Your Friend....MIKE.

Poets need more recognition. We are the dangerous ones that see through and behind the facades. We have harnessed the power of words. Love how this flows. You may be able to alter the line breaks by back spacing and then hold shift and enter where you want your line break to be.

beneath the trappings all men remain the same, for God is not a respecter of wealth but rather right hearts. A very thought provoking piece.

That's the glory of being a craftsman of words. You get to make your own universe however you see fit. I like your lofty descriptions of sovereignty and how too much luxury leads to laziness and lack of adventure. Much enjoyed reading this! However I'm not sure if I like or dislike the way your format your poems... with 1 to 3 words in each line. Maybe it's the lazy side of me that has to constantly click the scroll button on my mouse... LOL!
