Remembering My Second KO

Swimming
It's a fine summer day
in the reckless bliss of childhood.
My brother annoys me
and the chase retires to the trampoline.
He bails off gracefully
as I catch the tail of his shirt.
Bad move ...
I watch helpless as my feet slip and my body lifts,
gently turning into a nosedive.
Hello, trampoline bar ... long time no see.
Lucky for me, my face stopped the rapid descent.
THUD!
Blackness ... starry night

This time, vague screams wake me.
I look up and imagine the horror on my brother's face,
but I can't see,
so I just smile through sheets of red.
Just before darkness takes over again,
I hear my mother screaming.
I want to say,
"It's okay, momma.",
but I'm too far down ...

...down ... voices ... up again

I wake on the couch,
feeling dizzy and heavy.
Once again ...questioning word ...
"Hospital?"
Once again ... familiar voice ...
"Naw, he's fine.",
but this time,
I guess I'm too far away to give the ole, 'thumbs up'.

*Third KO coming soon ...

OMG, Caleb, how many times have you been knocked out? The only time it happened to me was in a surgery room with anesthesia. hahahaha. GOOD writing.

I have never experienced this before, so living vicariously through your KOs is pretty interesting. "Blackness... starry night" - love that line!
