About This Poem
Got Happiness In My Genes
Don't know who I inherited them from
Got happiness in my genes
Not complaining, it's the way to fly
Happy as I've ever been
Try very hard with most poems I write
To share these feelings of joy
Some may think, “he can't be that happy
He's being a little bit coy”
Sure can't remember ever lying before
Perhaps back in nineteen-thirty-nine
Cajoling my mom into staying up late
But she was quite used to my line
As a kid, ya just gotta keep on trying
To see what treasures you can gain
My own kids kept trying over and over
I was on to their little games
To get back to happiness in my genes
More apparent than ever before
Don't know who I inherited them from
But happy that's for dang sure!
