I Will Rage against the Dying of the Light

I will NOT "go gentle into that good night"
I will "rage, rage against the dying of the light"

For life was not meant to end in death
Our breath of life was heaven sent

But this is our morbid destiny
For Eve picked the apple from the tree

And plunged us into a world of sin
Where evil is birthed from within

And now death is part of life’s game
Because we filled our hearts with shame

But….I will NOT lie down and simply die
I will fight with every ounce… I’ll try

To cheat death and give him the slip
Before he plants his kiss on my lip

I will "rage, rage against the dying of the light"
I will NOT "go gentle into that good night"

I will blaze and burn in a brilliant flame
I will leave behind poems to my name

I will speak with eloquence, oh so fine
Before I become oblivious to time

I will NOT "go gentle into that good night"
I will "rage, rage against the dying of the light"

I will hold your hand one last time
And smile sweetly, a smile sublime

I will tell you to live and not to mourn
To drink in life and death to scorn

To be all that you were meant to be
For in that you’ll taste eternity

But most of all before I leave
I’ll make you promise not to grieve

But to rage and rage against this death
And live, truly live till your last breath

I beg you, do not go gently into the night
You must rage against the dying of the light

In Response to the poem by Dylan Thomas, "Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night." One of my favorite poems!

I have no doubt your muse will reappear. Do you still have the start of a poem I sent to you a month or so ago?

At last Eileen, you've admitted it's all a woman's fault lol. Seriously though, another great poem from you. ' Live truly till your last breath', is the most important line in this work, to me anyway. Take care, Regards Richard.

Thanks, Richard. Glad you liked it....I admitted to it ONLY for the sake of the poem. Had Adam been more watchful and NOT let her wander on her own....well, here goes the blame game. Remember...Eve was deceived...Adam went into it with both eyes wide open! :) See, I will always defend my gender! ;) Thanks for the read and the comment!

Pure awesomeness! One of your absolute best to date and I love your reference to that famous villanelle, while at the same time changing it up. Gonna have favorite this one... such a wonderful contrast to the other one I read of you recently... Keep fighting Eileen!

Thanks, Timothy...I guess you are referring to Nothing Matters Anymore? Well, yes...we do have our moments, don't we? This poem by Dylan Thomas just enthralls me. I guess that explains the passion with which I wrote this. Thanks for faving it! :) I'm honored!
