About This Poem

The Bench

She saw him there, in the park,
away from the celebration, he sobbed.
The war was over,
was he thinking of lost comrades
or were they tears of joy, or both.
She sat next to him on the bench
and they looked at each other
with shy tearful smiles -- and hugged.
