Ye Ole Jalopy

Just saw a fancy new jalopy go by At least that's what we used to call 'em Guess the ad men would surely cringe Jalopy wouldn't cut it for them! With all of today's sexy new cars Jalopy is a blast from the past The pace of life was much slower then Less frantic and surely not as fast! Any of you remember “rumble seats”? Wonder why they called them so 1939 was the last time we saw them Gone with those silent movie shows! But the reality is there's no going back We're stuck in this frantic new world One which no longer has time for niceties My mind's in a tizzy and a whirl! I take solace in knowing in coming years Today's technology and texting Will be just as passe as the old jalopy The future will be even more perplexing! ?Just saw a fancy new jalopy go by ?Traveled back to another time and place Enjoyed the much simpler things in life At a slower and less frantic pace! © Jack Ellison 2013

This is a unique and creative write. Full of truth and honesty. Yes, the world is changing but change is always inevitable. Nice job

"change is always inevitable" oh so true but as we age, it becomes more difficult to adapt! Thank you my dear Robin... I appreciate your kind comments! Hugs, Jack xox

And you wonder what they will come up with next? Sometimes I feel like I was born too late, LOL! Yes, progress is inevitable... I guess the real debate is whether or not we are really "progressing" or just degrading... true in some senses and false in others. If I may make one suggestion though, I find the last stanza not very necessary since it kinda repeats similar things already stated previous in the poem... just my thoughts though! Honest and funny writing as usual! :)

Progressing in some areas, degrading in other areas! Feels like we're on a treadmill! Thank you for your comment about the last stanza... they are always welcome! In fact more people should make comments, good or bad! Thank you my friend!

During my stay with my Dad we discussed those old days repeatedly... Slower but more family oriented... There was a lot of wisdom in the stay at home Mom... I worked and worried constantly about my son... There wouldn't be so much free love, drugs , and crazy wildness... if most had had a Mom there... It kept the kids more balanced... and the Moms... And they would respect the elderly more if they only knew them instead of racing off to be with their peer groups.
