About This Poem
Unhappiness
How many times can a heart break
Before it has no hope to ever mend
Just how many insults does it take
Us over the edge to send
How many tears can a soul bleed
Before there's nothing left to give
When we realize, we're not all someone may need
To allow them a full life to live
When the first thing you see is dread of day
And at night, only the release of quiet slumber
It's sad, but now time to out loud say
Of this dark cloud, I must get out from under
Unhappiness tears small parts from your heart
Until there's nothing left, but to survive
With mindless step after step each day does start
And leaves us wanting to again feel alive
Then the sun comes up, as it did yesterday
And you realize life does go on after all
You take bigger steps finding your way
Able to pick yourself up when you fall
Time does not heal all, but eases its pain
We all know this is more likely so
We take lessons learned through experiences we gain
And hope tomorrow more compassion does show
