About This Poem
In Mangroves
Along the eastern shore in mangroves old,
there, under shadows, alligators wait.
Egrets hunt in shallow open pools;
under stars a shark eases by.
Inshore, sea otters swim under branches
and playfully entertain themselves.
Inside, small orchids, mistletoe —
unusual plants and fauna evolve.
Patient intrepid barracuda often wait;
unsuspecting prey always gets eaten.
Hungry intent raccoons opt for underwater treats.
A crab escapes capture into
the outstretched mangrove undergrowth.
So, another day ends slowly.
In nature opulent symbiotic universal worlds adapt
because evolution constantly influences
the optimum natural usefulness,
there, as god examines the insidious,
sometimes overt, destruction unleashed.
Will be for David's contest after reading a few times.
