"I like seeing seeds sown
On black soils, and left to grow;
Transfer of world power,
Transfer of knowledge,
Burial of mirth,
Incarnation of intelligence,
The exhalation of revelation,
The soil-crack-open of germination,
The fat-produce of teaching,
The tantalizing consequence of fishing,
Just the way I like national self-dependence,
Violent reactions to colonization,
the quick healing of cultural dislocation":
Yes, that was our spiritual provocation,
EAT IT, DON'T FIGHT IT. It's your redemption.
No one would say you don't need medication
You need it, and your ancestors knew it,
Or must have known that the fruits must now drop at your feet,
A thousand juicy echoes from developing nations
Dropping on deaf ears; dead orations;
To cure your hunger,
great children of the long-gone generation of sowing-favor.
Why do you refuse
When we teach back to you,
As we have come of age,
Teaching from the basics of our ideas-storage,
Which you taught us?
Don't refuse the fruits,
To refuse now is a curse,
a punishment of your youths.
But rejoice as you must learn from your students
Who couldn't but return to you,
Offerings of your ancestors the planters past, reviewed;
Feedback from the student third-world countries,
Fruits of sown idea-currencies,
audible articulation of coming-of-age visions.
Don't refuse it
Close your eyes
To swallow it,
If you must never believe your eyes,
If it's like bitter medicine
or an inter-racial-polarity vaccine.
