About This Poem

Daniel

My dad was always this mystery
A shadow from the past I never knew
My mom rarely talked about him
And I never begged for another clue
I met him as I turned eighteen
We went to a Rolling Stones concert
And it seemed somewhat surreal
To be as dried as the vacant desert
He gave the keys to my Mustang
A brown, little hatchback from 1980
It was wheels for a little bit
Even if it could barely go above 80
I was in Nebraska for one week
With him as he worked as a handyman
We talked and were catching up
But I know not what makes him a man
I met my half-brother in Omaha
When I went to visit many years ago
He clung to me like the memory
Of being a brother I may never know

(Both my dad and brother are named Daniel.)

You are somewhat of an enigma around here! The least I can say is that make this site more interesting... lol! This piece was cool because although it was written poetically it was all non-fiction and something that was memorable enough to you to be written about... great way to capture memories and hold onto them forever... I am sad that you it took so long to get to know your dad and your half-brother, but at least you eventually met and shared a memory!

My Dad was with us all our lives, yet still in his death he holds a mystery. Never took time with us, only others. Something I forgive him for but it always bothers. Good poem and story. Enjoyed

Gigno life was always a mystery to me. a very nostalgic write, but would you mind explaining what "!!!" means as I for one have no idea what you mean by it, I would much prefer a written comment or nothing at all.... nice write...David

Gigno, you are such a mystery here. I really enjoyed reading this one to help me learn a bit more who you are!! My dad was a mystery to me too. At least I was able to see him a bit more when I grew older.
