About This Poem
Green is my colour
Green is my colour
In the traffic of my mind
It tells me to go
To seek and yes to find.
They say Green stands for envy
This I know is true
I am an envious of the people
In whose heart are parts of you
Green is the colour
Of grass that smells so sweet
When cut and walked upon
Feeling soft beneath my feet
Green can be the ocean
Sometimes still, but also wild
Lashing the small boats
Frightening man women and child
But my green, are my eyes
Changing colour with each mood
Can be quietly emerald
When life is calm and good
But when a storm breaks over me
The colour you’ll see is jade
As heart and mind wrestle
To walk the path that has been laid
Laid for me to follow
Lined with hope and fears
Each step i take i falter
Can’t see because of tears
So bring out the sun to guide me
Burn away these clouds of doubt
Sprinkle a little raindrop
Showing me the way out.
Out into your sunshine
In your garden of content
Where the perfume of life
Is love, the purest scent
A little bit of happiness
Mixed with trust and loyalty too
Held together with love
So it smells of you.
Finally
Green is for Ireland
Love of St Patrick is portrayed
By wearing the Shamrock
In the Paddy’s Day parade
