Changing Woman

Gathering feathers --
will you sew a new garment,
Changing Woman?

Will you spread down
over your patch-work skin,
Changing Woman?

Will you hide
your cicatricose body,
Changing Woman?

Could He understand
what they all mean
when they say:
She is Changing Woman.

How many
you have raised
from your flesh
in your flesh,
from your own
skin, teeth and bone

And you will wait
Changing Woman,
to see the Sun
turn His face

This is still a mysterious poem for me. I enjoy the variation of tone....there is a shift of your tone in this poem. I especially love the 2nd stanza -- it is a short poem within a poem, and it reads very well; a concise, perfect placement of words. The minimal rhyme of: own/bone, in that stanza, is a lovely touch. The end stanza reinforces the mystery all over again for me.
