My Little Pecker

I heard him in a tree above my head
He was pecking happily nature bred
Knock knock
Tic a Tock
With a soft rounded tail my Piculet
Was a happy passerine with no net

I stood in silence to watch his affair
A lekker demonstration from the air
Knock knock
Tic a Tock
It began to rain soaked in the forest
With force he pecked the coarsest

I saw a fiery head disappear in wood
He did everything he possibly could
Knock knock
Tic a Tock
An Olivaceous bird rain forest dream
My little pecker, ran out of steam!

Russel's comment regarding the title of this poem, is hilarious. I didn't know that you have a little pecker. Well, we truly do learn something new every day. The repetition throughout the stanzas makes for a strong effect. Some of the descriptive words you used, I haven't seen for quite a while.
