About This Poem
Unwanted Valentine
What shall I do with this love that burdens me so..
Should I put it in a box and tie it with a scarlet ribbon?
Will it be safe there on the shelf, away from prying eyes,
fresh and new and untouched by the tides of time...
I have tried to make it fit another, but it is unhappy
there and always returns to grab my heart , refusing
to live without the image of his face and smile.
No, I will keep it, and hold it to my breast, like a
lifeless child, afraid it will be snatched away
and I can no longer feel its presence in my life.
