Burning Embers
I met up with him in winters golden rink
Two hearts collided as we began to sink
He linked an arm around a ball in chain
Me a laden cloud and he refreshing rain
All of my tomorrows smolder in his eyes
Yet only moments catch me by surprise
I barely touch his skin or graze his neck
Still my heart uncoils, with just one peck
Licks of flame beneath my hearth for him
Burning embers, that won’t desist or dim
He’s my lover the man whom I have wed
The only one, who ever shared my bed
As I lay my head against his chest and be
I know we are to age, like the willow tree
For if I find the silver of his hair on mine
I’ll know our love is human, and divine.
