Man Dies In Fall From Pew

Man Dies in Fall From Pew

By Elton Camp

(Based on Acts 20: 9, 10)

Eutychus was listening to the Apostle Paul
But he drifted off asleep and took bad fall

Unwisely, it was in a window he was sitting
Eutychus died after the ground he was hitting

Paul did a resurrection on seeing he was gone
But then went back and preached on to dawn

Pastor Jones made his sermon way too boring
Before long, Roscoe nodded and was snoring

He was startled by the passing collection plate
Then he fell and, on the pew in front, hit his pate

The hard blow, sadly, snapped his neck in two
But there was nothing Pastor Jones could do

So if you find the sermon’s putting you asleep
Then get up and to the exit very quietly creep

For if you decide on staying around instead
Like Eutychus & Roscoe, you risk being dead

The part about Eutychus is taken from the Acts of the Apostles in the Christian Greek Scriptures. The thing about "Roscoe" is total fiction. Thanks for taking time to comment. Elton

Thanks, I really like writing something different from what is usually seen at these poetry sites. I hope this one doesn't offend anyone, but I did provide chapter and verse in case any thinks I made it up. Elton
