Sweet Spring

Days are lengthening with spring. Winter's thaw has awaken the earth. The rebirth cycle begins in my backyard. Bird feeders are full. Goldfinches adorned in their brighter yellow feathers of spring, happily feeding on seed. House wrens are making new nests and chirping their mating songs, creating a wonderful soundscape to my ears.

A gentle south breeze flows. With ice and snow melted, rivers flow. Transitioning winter to spring, and greening-up Mother's Earth. Buds are bursting forth on most of my trees with little green leaves. My purple crocus and blue hyacinth have started too bloom, much too early here in the north. What's in the air that makes me feel better? I like to think it's the sweet days of spring.

                                                    northern wind shivers
                                          wrapping warmth with woolen shawl
                                                    early spring sleeps lite

I'm not sure if the haiku is correct but it's the best I can do. I'm thinking of taking a haiku and a meter poetry course online so to improve my knowledge and writing skills. Not sure what the best course to take but will check them out I'm doing okay. Thanks for stopping by. Warm Smiles Connie

Your right John. I was thinking on deleting a couple bird line in the poem for that very reason. Thank you, I just rewrote it. Warm Smiles, Connie

LOvely Prose!!! You have 3 separate sentences in your haiku attempt ..note the 3 verbs? That's probably why you felt like capitalizing ;). a haiku has only 2 parts and is not a complete thought it is a momentary glimpse supported by other senses of an evoked feeling. Please check this out, let me know when to recheck the haiku part.https://sites.google.com/site/graceguts/essays/haiku-checklist HUGS>> Light & Love

Beautiful one, Connie. Debs does not like haiku capitalized, so I hope you put all the letters small in the haiku, ok? I love the imagery of the animals awakening to spring.
