About This Poem

Why Did They Die

Their deaths were pointless
In Pain in their own filth lay
Starved and deserted
Who cared, none could tell it seems
Not in war but hospital

© 6/02/2013 ~GG~
The Final report on our local hospital were 1000 patients died due to lack of care

It is a very sad tanka more so because it is based on truth. It is good that we can protest and brings things out in our polite way and in our writings. God bless for your motive. I loved it.

To die for something you believe in...is honorable, but to die needlessly...what can be more tragic than that. Thanks for sharing, Mandy! Also, thanks for your support a while back! It meant a lot to me! Hugs!

It is so sad when fellow humans become mere "cases" and are treated as "casualties", then such things happen. Well described in your poetry.

Dear Mandy, When Hippocrates’ oath is not respected and people see patients as objects to be exploited this what happens! We advance in technology and retrogress in humanity! Apart from that, it is an excellent poem and most of all it shows a person that really cares!

that is so sad - the people responsible for taking care of us shouldn't neglect us! I like your comparison to war too - these people have no excuse!

first i would like to comment on this wonderful poetic statment, and it sure drives it home Mandy, i've never seen a Tanka Form of poetry this good, it really does pierce the heart! I believe i know the hospital you write about here Mandy,, But who is to blame? as usual in todays warped society, the policy makers hide behind legislation, where accountability filters down to the lowest common demoninator, usully the staff. this is amazing poetry from someone that really does care....

I echo all below comments. Someone should be charged with a crime for things like this.

This is sad Mandy. The irony is loud and clear - it's really disheartening. You've brought it out poignantly.
