About This Poem

Secrets

This prison of a body is aching for me to finally confess
Secrets kept in these burning walls that suffocate my lungs;
Yet the air is growing quite pungent with my bitterness
As I stifle the words for they're too afraid to roll off my tongue...

    For just one stanza this poem says quite a lot. The intense feelings made a bit shiver, that doesn't happen to me often as In my writing I'm always existing in a dark word. So you poem to touch it must have rang a bell. A very good write indeed.

    So powerful captures the human conflict of keeping secrets, we all have to decide what to keep hidden and what can be revealed to a trusting soul. You have an awesome talent, my friend

    Secrets ... Hard to keep bottled up inside, but still need to be kept inside. Really liked the way you described the pain.

    Perfect description of what a secret is and what it does. Shame weighs heavy upon a fragile heart. Release it and become free! Thanks for the visit, it is appreciated poet!

    The truth is never changed by non-expression. Kudos for remaining silent when your heart wanted to scream. In silence, you grew in character.... Love ya..... Jake

    I like this poem Anne, it's mysterious, and probably a common feeling for so many people! Very creatively written.

    By the way, my greener pastures poem is a form. That's why there is repetition. It's four quatrains, 8 syllables each line. It actually doesn't have to rhyme, but not at least rhyming on 2nd and fourth lines is uncivilized lol. The first line of first quatrain, becomes the second line of second, third line of third then final line of fourth. It's a Quatern. I became enamored with the Villanelle, I also like this form. Thank you for all your lovely comments and I understand the student thing.

    I know this feeling and really you partly have the solution therin. The native americans had a strange way of getting rid of vice and shame. If a family member or friend knew of a bad habbit or deed or something they were dwelling on. They would tell the whole tribe and the would give the person a hard time until it wasn't a problem anymore. Moral, don't confess to native americans, but if you share with someone, you're no longer alone. The thing loses power, it's a form of acceptance. Nice work
