About This Poem
The Time of My Life
The time had come when the partying had to stop
When I had to plan for my life ahead
Organise those mundane things
Like a pension, a home, a mortgage
To look at myself, closely, decide what I need to drop
Spending my youth in clubs and an all night skating hall
Karaoke bars and the trouble it sings.
Annoyed at the world and filled with rage
As they only cared for the kids once they were dead
Then they gave us hope and destroyed the wall
Uniting lives once lost within the mist of hate and fear
A time to move into anther world. The new age.
When people would be photographed laying in bed
Not caring what promiscuous sex could bring
Until the parcel arrived… Oh isn’t he a dear!
But I won’t slow down and moan about my pension
I’ll travel more, though the flying I dread
Accept responsibility and wear my wedding ring
Meet more people and in conversations I’ll engage
Already I feel liberated with the thought of defying convention.
