PEAK OF WAR

Old I thought yet only 8
no stanger dangers
Kick ball, dolls and easy bake ovens
penny candy, drive in movies

Nineteen sixty eight
Kennedy was campaigning
Martin Luther King was shot
And the country was changing

So young, only 18
barely old enough to drive
hardly able to survive
Drafted, they would die

Peace and Love Not war
That's what they chanted
our children dying and our
children killing other children

But the war was here
right in our yards
racism was the monster
that fueled us and fooled us

We fought the war along side each other
took care of each other
carried each other
buried each other

No more Vietnam war
Not about the color of our skin
Our children are killing each other
because of the color of a rag
