About This Poem
I Remember
It is hard to believe you are not here.
The clock needs winding…time stands still.
The chair still holds your blood; ink stained
The one I used to sit with you on your knee,
You whispered things in my ear, told me of tales
Secrets... Do you remember?
You smelt of …you.
A three piece suit decked with a gold watch
Was your daily dress, smart, handsome,
Gifted. A talent to hold the room while you spoke.
I remember being mesmerised by your presence
You towered over me, but never scared me.
I sat in awe on the rug, waiting to be picked up
To be held by you, next to you, close to you.
Those times were suddenly taken from me, abruptly!
I still remember! I thought you were forever.
