Joe Dawg

Why you ears so heard?

First you charged for murder

Little later fe fraud

End up inna custody

Then stow way abroad

Continue with your badness

Nah praise the lord

Twos, twos, back in custody

End up pon isolation ward

Thump the screw so hard

Him drop like a ton a lard

Every day you want fight

Cant get to the exercise yard

Every time them beat you up

You cry, Oh Lord!

Change your ways no man

Your reply,"mi big and mi broad"

If a so you a go tell the officer

You gwine pull a wrong chord

If you no change your ways
You gwine end up inna de morgue.

Joe Dawg,Joe Dawg

Change your ways no man

Then you can become

Mr Joe Dawg

The patois used in your work reminds me of Paul Lawrence Dunbar's dialect poetry. It is a wonderful piece with culturally-rich expression. Thank you for sharing it. I must ask (plz forgive my ignorance), what does "thump the screw" mean??

A rude boy indeed. I definitely picked up a ska/reggae vibe, then read the comments below and saw I was correct. I love a poem that embraces street talk/slang...well done

The "slang" fits the poem to a T. Thanx for visiting my poem, "April 1994" - not many have picked up on the date yet :-)

Its Jamaican patois, exported to England. I sometimes write in my "native tongue".

the flag explains alot. the slang. it's not southern or inner city. it's street brit where they use words like "chokey". careful with those screws joe.
