About This Poem
A Fish Story
some excuses are valid
luckily, I had two pictures
of the seven hundred, fifty pound
Blue Marlin I caught on
a trip to Mazatlan
it took four of us, five hours
to bring it in but now
I feel nothing but eternal guilt
and remorse for executing
such a beautiful creature
even if it is essentially
the fisherman’s dream
the notion of stuffing it
or taking it home never
passed my mind
it would have looked ridiculous
in my small one bedroom
apartment, the fish was eleven
feet long for God's sake!
