About This Poem
The Lottery
Sell me any lotto number
Life is but an empty dream
If it's a winner while I slumber
Wake me up so I can scream
Life is real! Life is painful!
And though the grave will free my soul
I will hope my ticket's gainful
And playing I will reach my goal
Playing is an anxious sorrow
Edging closer to the ditch
But I'll buy some more tomorrow
In hopes that I'll be filthy rich
I've not yet won - and time is fleeting
My heart aches and I'm quite poor
But if my heart continues beating
There is hope - I'll buy some more
Parody of "A Psalm of Life" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
