DIVING IN
Relentlessly Sun beating down
Fierce the glare, making me frown
Sand, like grains of wisdom, needling
Unwelcome, persistent wheedling
In the mimeses I will drown
Table Bay glistens within reach
Waves rolling onto pristine beach
Neptune favouring emerald green
Seagulls parading, feathers preen
Gannets diving – an endless screech
The Atlantic notoriously cold
Bracing myself – fear on firm hold
Salt spray stinging, lashing my face
Against the cold I myself brace
Welcome water around me fold
New Year resolutions we make
Bad habits gladly we forsake
Fearing hostile, unknown future
Uncertainty we’ve to endure
Diving in, the mould I shall break
