Each child, with presents under the tree;
their eyes full of wonder and anticipation.
Blooming into the place we call child
yet trying at times to be so adult.
We remember them only with tears
while family must listen to their hearts.
We look and speak of what might have been
while family speaks of what was and is,
and all of us suffer for what can never be.
Please, may their young souls
rejoice within the place reserved.
Let their mute voices be stark
testimony of the goodness of man
and their forgiveness, in the face of
brutal circumstance, be the way
we want to honor their short lives.
And may their memory live and grow
to inspire all mankind to actions
which will someway benefit us all.
With respect to all the parents and loved ones.
