About This Poem
When Darkness Shadowed a Whiteboard
The day went about it’s business.
A winter sun hung low. Birds sang, children laughed.
A mother lay silent.
The car pulled into the playground, the driver; just a child
A forced door led to a sign something was wrong!
The children laughed, unaware of their fate.
The teachers went about their business.
Then all at once thunder echoed around the corridors
Panic set in; lock down, hide and protect, and pray!
Innocence was taken. Futures were taken. Dreams were taken.
Parents went about their daily business,
Unaware; that the farewell... The wave... The Kiss... would be the last one.
Evil stalked and preyed that fateful day…birds sang…
Twenty children…Seven adults…No more laughter.
