I cradle my child as hazards draw near,
and I try to conceal my mounting fear,
For children are passive, have no defense,
Lord, raise Your shield! Safeguard their innocence!

Minefields and war zones, perversion and lust,
The purest of heart are betrayed through trust,
Hunted by hatred, rage and violence.
Lord, raise Your shield. Safeguard their innocence!

Precious are new souls, each loving and wise,
The lost amongst us we fail to recognize,
This world is ripe with risk, dangers immense.
Lord, raise Your shield. Safeguard their innocence!

Those ill and wounded we seem to neglect,
Man must pay more heed, then pause and reflect,
All nations are grieving, seek deliverance,
Lord, raise Your shield. Safeguard their innocence!

Small angels now watch, all with baby teeth,
Open our eyes! Heal what lies beneath!
Break every heart! Shatter indifference!
Lord, raise Your shield! Safeguard their innocence!

My heart is aching for the families of those killed in Newtown, Connecticut, and the heroes who tried to shield the children, and the survivors who will suffer in the aftermath. May something change, soon, before we see this kind of tragedy again, and may we look closer to see if the change can first begin within ourselves.

Prayers sent to all those touched by this horror and to the world as a whole for healing.

Dear Cindy, It is a marvelous, heaven-provoking prayer. Well written and inspiring! Thank you for your comment on The India's Rape Victims. I myself cried as well, it is so WRONG and INHUMAN, I felt I had to do something. Was inspired to write a small token of fighting against this terrible act. God bless you and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ah, heart is aching too...It's so outrageous that it still seems unreal to me...a shame that one of these cowards did not survive their suicide attempts so someone could perhaps find out what makes these people tick, if that's possible...I love kyrielles and have written nailed it with this one - Tim
