Unrealized Dreams

What crimes have I committed
Who have I enslaved
The choices I make freely every day
Have I hurt you?
You live so far away
I owe you the clothing on my back
The shoes on my feet

While I walk through my pristine life
Your feet are bare
No education for your children
You work for pennies each day
Will you eat tonight
Will your dreams be realized?

It is easy for me
I have freedom
Still I am a slave
A slave to my own desires
When will I have enough?
Will you ever be able to sew enough garments?
Am I your master?
I can not even master my own desires.
The more I see the more I want
I try not to think about the invisible hands
Your hands
Your unrealized dreams
I continue to live in my land of pretend
pretending my decisions make no difference
The corporations are at fault
you remain faceless
I remain oblivious
living my consumer dreams
my dream is your nightmare
you can't wake up
you continue to sew
rooms that are too small
the smell of sweat fills your nostrils
no sick days
position easily filled
You hold tightly to this lifeline
What choice do you have?
Can there be a fate worse than this?
Sadly the answer is yes

I sit here reading my own words
I stand guilty
Not sure what to do
no longer ignorant of my crime
I hang my head in shame
who will pronounce my sentance
Will you be more merciful than I?

Man, I love emotional pieces like this one! A reader can really see into the soul of a writer when the work is so skillfully written and shockingly honest! This is nothing short of AMAZING... You, my friend, should honestly be proud of being so honest with yourself and the readers. I would rate this a 27 if I could... Great work! Also, I sent you a soupmail about one of my pieces.

Richard; This very deep and very heartfelt. I tell you one thing. none of us are perfect. We are all guilty of something. Jesus is the Answer and God is the the only one that can judge us. Many blessings. Lucilla

Others can judge us but only he can offer us true forgiveness.

it seems today Richard, we are slaves or servants to most aspects on the planet,, you write a very powerful poem, here, i also read a guilt factor woven within... because as you and i know, there are those far worst off than us... this is how i'm understanding this very powerful poem of yours, brilliant piece of poetry..

Amazing write Richard! I love it! Slavery is a master that transcends social boundaries. Mankind is rarely satisfied with just enough. He has to amass more forgetting the man below who is also crying out for something. Unfortunately, wealth corrupts and the man below becomes like the man above once he crosses that line because he was taught to hate the man he is. That is the sad fact of life. Great writing this!!!

You dont have to work in a sweat shop to be a slave, yes anyone can be a slave to something or someone in this life, our freedoms here are taken for granted, and your right Richard, who will grant us mercy, good write my friend, Carl

This is such a sad write my friend! This poem is so very true and it hurts when you realize that this happens, that there are those people working for just pennies a day to make our trinkets and whatever it is we so very want! You have hit the nail right on the head, but what can we do about it? What can we do to make their dreams be realized! This is a wondrous poem Richard, you have written it so very masterfully! I love your talent and ideas for poems, Great Work!!
