About This Poem
Christmas Dinner
We saw that you lay in your bed;
an over imbibed Christmas Day.
In fact, you had buried your head;
you wished we would all go away.
We noticed you tossing in bed,
not daring to open your eyes;
aware that the daylight ahead
would come as a nasty surprise.
We heard as you rushed from your bed
and dashed to the bathroom in flight.
You peered at the glass with some dread;
the face looking back was a fright.
We hoped you would soon leave your bed
all blessed with a happy release.
But knowing you’d rather be dead,
we left you to suffer - in peace.
