From the Older, To the Younger
Pen in one hand, a picture in the other.
I write to you these words of, "Been there done that."
I know of the pains and things you have seen,
and I know many more that are to follow.
As I look at this picture of a younger me, or you,
I remember the exact moment.
I know of what you are going through, and of the rivers of red,
you let flow from your tender flesh.
Know that what you do should end,
believe it or not you don't need it.
All I ask for you to change now that you know these few words,
Is when that boy you love comes along and takes your hand,
You know, the one you've loved since sixth grade?
The first time he holds you, don't let him go.
Tell him you love him, before he goes off to war.
