About This Poem

Homeless Christmas

The icicles that grow for years
And slowly cry then drop and die
In liquid pools of frozen tears.

The pain that builds within a lie,
Lives that wait for want of love,
And slowly cry then drop and die.

Prayers for kind hearts undreamt of
In a world of cold despair,
Lives that wait for want of love.

No shelter from the winter air
Longing for a warm embrace
In a world of cold despair.

Where they’re gone without a trace
Hopes that freeze before they drip,
Longing for a warm embrace.

From this world they gladly slip,
The icicles that grow for years,
Hopes that freeze before they drip
In liquid pools of frozen tears.

i used to drive into a city often and see the homeless on corners, or in fast food places trying to grab some warmth, i often felt for them and offered them a meal and coffee...good poem, good luck in the contest!
