What Is Christmas About
What is Christmas all about? Santa and his elves?
Gifts we give to someone else? Gifts we get ourselves?
Decorations on a tree? Hoping snow will fall?
Trips to see a family? That’s not it at all.
Christmas is about a time God looked down on man,
Saw him in a sinful state, and devised a plan.
Christmas is about a place here upon this earth
Where God sent His precious Son through a virgin birth.
Christmas is about a man and his wife-to-be
Sitting in a stable small, now a family.
Christmas is about a Babe born that quiet night
With an angel choir above looking at the sight.
Christmas is about some men there upon a hill
Hearing angel choirs that night when it had been still.
Christmas is about these words whispered near the inn:
“His name will be Jesus Christ, He’ll save us from our sin.”
Christmas is about the plan for this child who came:
Dying on a rugged cross in agony and shame.
Dying so all men could be by God justified
When they trusted in His Son who there hung and died.
Christmas is about God’s Son, not about the elves,
Not about the gifts we give or that we get ourselves.
Christmas is about a life we can live again,
Washed much whiter than the snow from our every sin.
Christmas is about a tree where His blood was given
To make us His family and a home in heaven.
What is Christmas all about? Oh, I hope you know
That it is about God’s love that to us He shows.
When you come to Him by faith, you will sing and shout,
For you’ll really know right then what Christmas is about.
