About This Poem

We Loved, Sir

Ah, to those among us whose conscience rests peacefully,
To those who have always abided by “The Golden Rule”,
I bow to your strength of character, for resisting temptation,
To your avoidance of trysts and flings and indiscretions,
And inappropriate and mischievous encounters,
To those hidden clandestine improprieties
And surreptitious unseemly deceptions.
You have avoided the guilt, recent or long past
And also the memories of…
*“How sad and bad and mad it was—
But then, how it was sweet”.
