Old Years New Tears

I raised my foot to climb the stairs
only to find an old age impediment there.

Down I went face first upon the stair
now realizing that I must first think before going there.

Raise that leg high resounds in the mind
something I didn't have to do once upon a time.

A thought that now stays ever constant in my mind
each time I approach something I have to climb.

What was once done with thoughtless effort
is now done in thoughtful measure.

As we grow older so many things change that once were done with ease are now almost impossible to achieve. I invite you to view "Hands" and "Times advances" in my postings. I have written several other senior moment poems you may enjoy. I like your fine write that you have presented here.

Thank you for your kind words. We've all taken a bruising unexpected trip at one point or another in our lives. It's just just the older we get the more frequent they come about and the results often more costly. May all your sidewalks in the future be level. Tlee

I'm right there wit you Terry, when we were young we were invincible and time was just a word. Now I tell folk that my mind writes cheques that my body cannot cash! Lovely write. God Bless. Dave.

Don't know what you mean by a distant memory unless you found a miracle cure or are unfortunately wheelchair bound. I am pleased that you you found this piece of my body of work enjoyable. Thank you for your kind review. Huggs TLee

Thanks Debbie. There are quite a few things that age robs us of speed, balance and sharpness of mind just to name a few. Thank goodness they are coming out with many new ways to help us other than just drugs. May your life still find some spring for your step.

What a shame when we come to realise we are not infallible xx

Well then I guess I have been a shame for a long time as I realized that when I was a young adult that I was far from infallible. What I didn't realize is that even though I had been very athletic most of my life and very concious of what I should or should not put in my body that it would fail me as soon as it has.
