Five Steps

I’ve been told there are five steps of grieving
Each one I walk for miles

~~~~~1~~~~
Numbness is the first in the chain
And, shock is supposed to help ease the pain
You can pinch me, and I will not feel it
Number one is the pit I am in
~~~~~2~~~~~

Yearning and anger are around the corner
I do not see me in that state of being

Anger is something I do not feel
How can I be mad at someone who was not well?

~~~~~3~~~~~
Despair, sadness, and withdrawal
The thunderstorms move in
I am stuck in one and three
Somewhere, deep, deep in me
~~~~~4~~~~~

Now, I am supposed to let positive emotions begin
Reorganize, more enlightened, although grief can still set in

The tears will lessen, my well will dry
They will not see me cry

~~~~~5~~~~~
Letting go and moving on! Is the last phase, I am told
My interests will return, sadness will lessen, behold...
But, how will this happen?
When I have one and three, still on my back to burn.
    Very well done, "each one I walk for miles." Very powerful. If only grief was as simple as a 5 part equation. I think each person experiences it differently.
    Wow this depicts the hurt and many other emotions of grieving that relates well to those who have experienced such loss. I particular like the line "How can I be mad at someone who was not well" This clearly touched my heart because it allows the person to accknowledge the reality of someone being sick but also being able to detach and understand your own pain if that makes sense. I really could relate to this piece thank you!!
    Hi Holly this is so sincere, such intensity, i wonder if you put yourself in your love ones place and think, how they would want you to feel right now! you have done the right thing in your grieving, thinking on the positive aspects of your love one's life, will give you the will to carry on and see everything in this light.. your poetry is beautiful, and touching, and this in itself is an aid to others and there are many out here that need this.
    WHoa Holly! This is an intense write. Five stages of grief - that is the norm but that doesn't mean everyone shows the same reaction. Time, situations, character, environment all play a role in shaping our reactions. People have varying degrees of emotions and they express them in different ways. But the thing to remember is that the veil will lift.
    Holly, what a weight it must be, for this enduring pain, I can not bare, but don't give up the fight, for the light will soon shine again... Writing is the remedy, of the realm that can heal all wounds... Keep pen in hand for their are many of us here who love you and enjoy the company of your prescience... All my love n' prayers Carma
    and michael is right. Just letting your emotions go with writing is a type of remedy.
    Holly, you just take longer than most to heal. I know for some, it never goes away but surely it will lessen. How long ago was it? I forgot to ask you? I will pray for you that things get easier. Remind me the poem you said for me to read. I think I deleted the last soupmail already.
    Your words reach through the screen and touch all souls that read you... It will get brighter in time that I know seems slow.. writing is the best medicine... hugs Michael
