About This Poem
The Beautiful Melt
All those sentimental Christmas songs with romantic pretty lines
like "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" or
"As Long as you love me so, let it snow
let it snow,
let it snow" -
I'd love to take the feeling of nostalgia each lovely phrase invokes
and wrap it around me like a warm woolen cloak.
But words do not suffice,
and imagination, no matter how sweet,
will not see me through a long cold winter's night.
I look up at a sky ablaze with stars.
They cannot match the light within your shining eyes.
I want to BE with you, snuggled by a fire,
the steady glow of your adoring eyes on mine;
the touch of your fingers on my face;
and the touch of my own fingers, trembling, as I trace your smile
before you lean in for the softest, smoothest kiss.
Oh, for the beautiful melt of the season
as the warmth of REAL sensations soak into my skin.
No, a mere fond memory simply cannot do!
