A Trainer

A trainer is something you associate with speed
Yet I know A Trainer who is so slow indeed
Though his surname is Trainer he is not very quick
Yet with a name like that you would think he’d be slick

Alas he is not he just cannot move
He is constantly stuck in a very slow groove
He does not do heavy, large or to far
The only time he moves quickly is to get to his car

In fact a snail complained about him today
Said he was following him what more can I say
He went to the hospital for an x-ray
They found no work in him much to their dismay

No work today or at any other time at all
Yet he thinks it’s funny imagine the Gaul
Last week he nearly broke out in sweat
It won’t happen again on that you can bet

For if it does the accident book he will need
And a lie down with a good book to read
I really don’t know how he did what he did
For if there’s any work in him he keeps it well hid

The useless old git is breathing good air
Someone else could be having it’s really unfair
When at last he croaks it I won’t give a toss
Cause to me when he dies it won’t be a great loss

I just hope it’s soon for this man I detest
May it be long and slow and his soul never rest
Though at his slow pace he will probably live a long while
And he’ll be late for his own funeral but I will stand there and smile

To know that he’s gone will leave a warm glow
A sense of well being I will finally know
A Trainer departed never to return
Accept to his home in a very slow urn

This is about a man I had the misfortune to meet and work with, I have never disliked someone so much as to write a negative word about them, yet in this case I have made an exception just to prove that we all have a bad side, this is mine. Hope no one is to offended he wasn’t when I gave him a copy on his retirement.

Hi Owen - Thanks for your kind comment about my poem! This poem is well-crafted and outstanding! We all encounter someone who seems to be an obstacle and is our "difficult" person - old or young. Even though you cast him in a negative light, he does have one redeeming qualities - being a good sport - since he was not offended. - Gail

This one is a good one comparing him to different things in life like a snail, etc..We all have our moments for sure..There will always be a person here and there that comes into our path and I think that person is there to help us grow as a person..I believe it is more about our reaction to them and how we handle the relationship whatever that relationship happens to be..Enjoyed reading this one today..Thanks so much for stopping by..Your presence at my work is always uplifting..Sara
