like the last leaf
before winter's chill
i hang on this branch
tired and alone
waiting for a gust of wind
that never comes
to set me free
i cling on
lifeless
blank of all color
thirsting for something more
than this frigid air
to hold me tight
yet night arrives
showing off
the fullness of moon
but my shadow
remains empty
like footsteps
in yesterday's snow
