About This Poem
The Kiss
The breast
Symbol of nurture, womanhood
Mens obsession
Natures gift turned to curse
Mastectomy, identity confused
Great loss, clinging to life
Taking no chances
You stare at yourself in the mirror
Crying but still here
Fight has ended
Battle wounds
engraved on body and spirit
Husband walks in room
Ashamed you cover yourself
He gently pulls your arms aside
Slowly kisses your scar
He looks at your body then into your eyes
He says "you have never been more beautiful"
