What We've Become

Crying to heaven, do they weep for us?
We deserve no tears, only our own.

Deceit served on platinum platters
we have become disgraced, disenchanted, disloyal,
even unto ourselves. Who wants to
hear a bleak reality? No penchant of truth;
we shun the truth.
Deny! Deny! Deny!

A society of greed, insensitivity, ignorance.
The privileged endlessly gain, as
poverty drains the dry reservoir,
we, the middle, forgotten, muted voice,
are fed to the beast.

A race of uncaring, oblivious statues
doomed, as we become our ultimate destruction
and destroy our world, along with
those who plead for change.
As our planet dies, diseases rampant, life falls
away to silent eyes and ears.

Harboring secrets of our demise,
wolves calculate, vigilantly
weaving the weakest of webs, and
watching sheep tangle in hope.
And we who watch and learn, as always, go unheard

I am not a pro on any form of poetry but...I know when I read a poem if I have enjoyed it. Now I have read yours and I have indeed enjoyed it Nick. I wish you a wonderful weekend and hope you find much inspiration to continue with your writing endeavors. Love, Carol

Your words ring with truth. Mankind has obliterated moral justice and has embraced prejudice and oppression. Very well written Nick!
