Our Words

Our words written down for all to see
What happens to them when we cease to be?
Safe will our love ones keep them

Our words some of which are written about them
And of course we think that at least there is one gem
Safe will our loved ones keep them

As the years go by and their memories fade
Our words which we thought were tailor made
Safe will our loved ones keep them

Will they show them to the children to come?
Use them to show the love between ancestors gone
Safe will our loved ones keep them

Or as times passes on will a generation forget
Throw them out without regret
Or safe will our loved ones keep them

We will hope that our words will inspire
Within one generation a writing desire
So that safe their loved ones will keep them

It’s a quandary I have no answer to
But I’m probably hoping just like you
Safe our love ones will keep them

I think you have no worries they will be well kept. You seem a warm and loving person, I am sure your words are treasured. A thought well worth pondering.

many questions here, Owen, and your poem makes one think.. will poetry be banished in to oblivion, or will we all become famous????? enjoyed....

This is a lovely poem to reflect on, especially for writers, there's always that chance that words which we've spent so much time on will be disregarded by strangers but with loved ones words are treasured. Well written Owen!
