About This Poem

Remembrance

A shiver ran through me,
As I walked into the room,
You stood there before me,
A reminder of something,
Hidden in the distant gloom.

Suffering and grief,
Torture and pain,
Chilling scenes from the past,
Slowly appeared in my brain.

So many empty chairs,
Around the table you set,
Waiting for the millions,
Who we should never forget.

Why did you move me so,
It’s really hard to say,
But the thought of a visit,
To an infamous place,
Came back to me today.

I loved that your poem's focus was your reaction to the artwork - the deep feelings you felt personally. A sobering yet wonderful poem! Congratulations on your win in my contest!
